About Jack Speak

Jack Speak is a WordPress blog for anyone in the Royal Navy to write about their work and their passions. The site is a standard WordPress blog, customised heavily through the theme and plugin APIs. Customisations include allowing visitors to search for particular types of content (e.g. video), rate posts, for the Navy to feature bloggers, Flickr and lightbox integration for photos, YouTube integration for video, podcasting and an on-page player for audio, listings for all authors, enhanced author pages with a media carousel which allow visitors to see all media uploaded by that author and the “status” of the author, enhanced workflow for authors to submit their posts to be published and to receive feedback from the publishing staff, and loads more… phew!

Who Designed the Theme

The visual design was provided by TwentySix, who led the Jack Speak project. The HTML for the theme is based on Sandbox, the theme for themers, customised by Simon Wheatley to the requirements of TwentySix’s design, and the CSS was written from scratch by Simon Wheatley. Additional functionality developed by Simon Wheatley.
